Sarah J. Maas fans are ready to return to Prythian. The new York Timesbestselling author’s sixth book in her beloved A Court of Thorns and Roses series, A Court of Splintered Harmony, hits shelves on October 27, 2026.
This release will open a new chapter for one of the biggest fantasy romance series of the last ten years. Publisher Bloomsbury has revealed that the sixth book will be followed with an eighth ACOTAR novel, A Court of Forgotten Melody, on the 12 th January 2027. The two forthcoming books have been announced as part of The Valkyrie Cycle.
The news has created significant buzz among fans who have patiently been waiting for the next book in the story, after the ending of A Court of Silver Flames. Author Sarah J. Maas first published the first installment in the ACOTAR series in 2015, which unveiled the magical land of Prythian, populated by powerful Fae courts and a sweeping tale of love, political unrest, war and magic.
The series has gone on to become a worldwide publishing thing and a powerful presence in the budding romantasy genre. Bloomsbury identifies A Court of Splintered Harmony as the sixth installment of the internationally-successful fantasy romance sequence. The upcoming novel will take the reader back to a Prythian who is still reeling from the aftermath of the destructive Hybern War, and a new menacing threat will emerge.
The dark heart of the looming battle is Koschei the Deathlessan ancient, potent presence who is beginning to exert his influence over the Fae. Though Koschei is imprisoned at the bottom of a mountain lake, the quoted third makes it clear that the increasing danger represented by Koschei draws increasingly powerful agents of deaththe very same that the humans fled fromback to their land: The Night Court will be faced with yet another opposition.
Though, thwarting this new threat won’t be a matter of simple execution.
Prythian still seems to be in disarray, and those who guard the Night Court will have trouble recovering from the blow downs and awkward discoveries. The more official synopsis hints at this: The bonds and the relationships could prove to be just as critical as defeating the newly-arrived male. The title, A Court of Splintered Harmony, seems to echo this struggle.
In describing the contents, Bloomsbury mentions that the characters will have to unite long-broken alliances and defeat the pockets of darkness that threaten the world if they wish to survive. To ACOTAR fans, the return of Koschei will probably rank high on the list of the best things about the new book. The character is an integral, though long-standing, part of the wider mythology of the series, and the new novel seems poised to move that threat from the background to the forefront.
The release will be notable for another reason as well. Instead of having to wait another year or more for fans to continue with the next installment, Maas and Bloomsbury have announced that the seventh book A Court of Forgotten Melody will be released just under three months after its predecessor. That’s two major drops back into the ACOTAR world that season!
